Bragg Reflection Filter Wavemeter

Bragg Wavemeter

Background:

This apparatus is part of an effort funded by NASA Langley Research Center. It was developed at the Hampton University Research Center for Optical Physics (RCOP) to create calibrated multiple Bragg fiber sensors on a single fiber for smart sensors applications.  It was designed by Milfred E. Thomas of MET Engineering.   The specifications were developed by Dr. Donald Lyons of Hampton University RCOP and Dr. Zolili U. Ndlela of California State University Sacramento.

Bragg Wavemeter

Description:

The Bragg Reflection Filter Wavemeter is used to simultaneously position the fiber and measure the transverse holographic grating being written by the UV source. Utilizing a stabilized visible laser source the on-board interferometer supplies a calibration reference for each fiber produced while the UV laser burns the grating onto the optical fiber. The platform is mounted on a 1800mm precision rail system with high resolution encoder, which enables multiple phase angles thus gratings to be produced.
